Curtis’s story

Listen to the audio of this story

Since I was a child, I had always wanted to be a Formula 1 driver. I used to enter tournaments when I was a kid – I grew up riding go-karts and bikes.

My life changed when I turned 16, and I started getting ill with stomach issues – unbeknownst to me, I had this neuromuscular condition. As I have become older, more problems have arisen – left shoulder problems and left leg issues – with people unaware how it feels, or knowing what to do.

Making a Difference: Right now, I work full-time as a child protection business support officer. My job is mostly sitting at a desk typing away, and helping make a difference to kids’ lives.

I may be unable to lift, run or even do the jobs I wanted to do, but I have had to adapt my life.
